This game has always had a special place in my heart. There’s this pervading theme of “homelessness” throughout the entire game… With characters such as a thief with blurry memories of his home, a princess who doesn’t recognize her mother and her actions anymore, a mage who doesn’t know what he is, a knight questioning his loyalties, a hunter puzzled by what cooperation is, and a child who is the last survivor of her village… So yeah, all of them are pretty lost.
And yet, in their travels with each other, they find in each other what they had all been looking for: a family, a place where they belong. Or rather, they formed what they were looking for: a home. (Hence the name of the main theme, “A Place to Call Home”.)
As someone who has felt homeless for some time now, lost, wanting somewhere to belong, you can see why this game resonates so much with me, the plot, the characters, and their dynamics, especially Vivi and Zidane.
